THE RADON

Radon gas is the 2nd cause of lung cancer after the tobacco.

Its penetration in the body is made via the respiratory tract; its radioactive descendants settle in the lungs by emitting particles of high energy, irradiating tissues. Highly present in certain regions, it infiltrates and accumulates in houses. Odourless and not provoking either cough or nausea, it is not detectable without the use of an instrument.

The concentration of radon in the atmosphere is very weak; it is for that reason that natural waters constantly loosen the radon, stemming from rocks. The level is weaker in urban zone than in rural zone. It is particularly present in granite and volcanic soils.

The European authorities recommend not exceeding a value of 200 Bq/m3 for houses built since 1990 and a value of 400 Bq/m3 for houses built before 1990.

Facing the scale of the phenomenon and the risk of public health, which it represents, the law makes obligation since 2004, in Belgium for example, to measure the concentration in radon for places receiving public.

We use a Ramon 2.2 radon detector, which controls the presence and the concentration of this gas. The device is left in place 48 hours and the measure results allow taking the necessary precautions.
